![]() ![]() “You’re joking,” Jason says incredulously. “But if you must know, you’re all part of a totally awesome series of books, and I’ve read all of them, so I know all about you.” I guess this is how demigods feel about potential death threats. “Uh, I already fell from the sky, so all in a day’s work.” I should be terrified, but with all that has happened so far, this feels ordinary. “Explain,” she snarls, “or I’ll throw you off the ship.” In my state of bliss, I forgot that Percy is still a sensitive subject to her. The words Percy Jackson are like a gunshot to Annabeth she pins me against the wall and glares at me as though she’s trying to melt a hole through my face. I won’t name names but one of them is Percy Jackson-” “-and I know that three more people are going to come on this ship. “I know that Piper’s a daughter of Aphrodite, and you’re a son of Zeu-I mean, Jupiter, and-” I know the more I talk, the more I’ll freak them out, but I can’t help myself the look of shock on their faces is priceless. ![]() “Oh, I know more than that,” I say giddily. “It’s like she knows exactly who we are! She knew there were three others on this ship!” One is a girl with choppy brown hair and amazing multicolored eyes-“Piper?”-and the other is a tall blond guy-“Jason?!” Of course, they don’t expect me to know their names. So instead I content myself to inwardly blowing up.Īfter what seems like three hours, Annabeth finally returns with two others in tow. What if I wake up now, never even getting the chance to meet the characters? The thought is too devastating to bear. ![]() Eventually I’ll wake up and start crying. Everything seems so surreal-I actually walk over, touching things just to see if they’re real, or a figment of my imagination.īut this is all a figment of my imagination, I think suddenly. If this is some sort of compensation for falling out of the sky and nearly dying, the fall was totally worth it. I jump around in circles, mentally screaming with excitement. She turns and gives me a wary look before slipping into the corner. “And make Leo hate me for life? Is that supposed to be a rhetorical question?” “You won’t accidentally-or purposely-destroy the ship, right?” “Only if I can be sure it’s okay to leave you alone for two minutes,” she corrects. “I’m going to meet demigods! Real demigods!” “Oh, my gods!” I squeal, not caring about what Annabeth thinks of me right now. And I have a feeling they’ll want to meet you.” She starts to walk away, shaking her head slightly. She still looks incredulous, but stops examining me so curiously. She doesn’t know that she and the others are a part of an epic book series. “You mean they’re not here? Leo, Jason, Piper-” They’re a sparkling grey, just as stormy as Rick Riordan described. “Look, who are you? Because I don’t have time for-” Her eyes grow wide. If she’s on the ship… “Are the others here?” I try to keep my cool but inside I’m squealing. Just…oh, gods…”Īnnabeth raises an eyebrow. How do you know that? Who are you, anyway?” I must be freaking her out, or irritating her, because she kind of snaps back at me impatiently, “Yes. “Annabeth Chase? Is it really you? Daughter of Athena? The Annabeth Chase? You’re…real?!” “Who are you?”īut I don’t answer her question. This catches her by surprise she starts, backing into a wall and staring at me. She’s walking in my direction and doesn’t even notice me standing there.Īnd since I’m in such a state of disbelief, naturally I gasp (inconveniently loudly), “ Annabeth?” Until I see a blonde-haired girl checking and rechecking things, muttering to herself. It seems too good to be true, so I dismiss the thought momentarily. I never dream what I want-which is this exactly, assuming that this is actually Leo Valdez’s flying ship, and that the seven in the prophecy, plus Coach Hedge, are all actually in it. Of course, I don’t know any existing organisms that teleported through a book into the sky, fell, and survived-besides myself. But that’s silly the flying ship doesn’t really exist. And I’m shocked to the core, to say the least. I barely take in my surroundings for two seconds, but I know where I am. Slowly standing up on wobbling legs, I look around. My back hurts like crazy, as if someone shoved the weight of the sky onto it. My eyes shoot open and I sit straight up, wincing. ![]()
